I applied for a credit card at a Wells Fargo branch. After several minutes I was turned down. Quite surprised and embarrassed because I know my FICO score is -. I waited for the letter of explanation and it said " we are unable to offer you a credit card for the following reasons-Repossession on credit report ( property taken back due to non-payment ) ''. I know this had to be a mistake and became immediately concerned. I called Wells Fargo and they told me to pull my free credit report from -. I did & the report is perfect. Spoke to an - rep who confirmed this and said there is nothing on the report that would cause credit to be denied. I called Wells back and they said - - - reported it. I then called - and they said I 've been a perfect customer for 15 years and they reported nothing negative. So now it 's - negatives from - & - negatives from - -. I call Wells back with this information and now they say " you returned a leased car early '' which I did under a special program offered by -. Wells Fargo for some inexplicable reason considers that as a " repossession for non payment '' and automatically denies the application. At least I now know my credit is still perfect and it 's Wells Fargo 's application review process that 's defective. Certainly an aggravating experience over the last week.
