Wells Fargo & Company Credit card department,
Wells Fargo solicited an application for a Home Rebate credit card. The employee who solicited the additional business from us misrepresented the terms of the card. He clearly and repeatedly said that the card came with a $0.00 balance transfer fee, and confirmed it in response to my written question. Here is a chronology of his contact with us. I have the complete records in my files. Wells Fargo credit card offer timeline - -, 2013 - Husband receives a call from employee in the - office. [ We had never heard of him and had not been in contact with anyone about the matters he wanted to discuss. ] He reviews our current business and says he has a good offer that will save us money : Among an assortment of several other dubious offers, he said that we could transfer a portion of our HELOC to a new " Home Rebate Credit Card, '' for which we are prequalified because we are " such great
Husband says to call me ( wife ). - -, 2013 - After I turned down the other offers the employee offered a " Home Rebate Credit Card '' that will rebate a certain amount of cash against our home mortgage. The interest rate on the card would be 0 % for twelve months. I asked about the balance transfer fee. He said it is $0.00. He then asks about our retirement fund assets and proposes that we bring our statements in for a review. I ask to see the credit card terms in writing. He says he will email them. He sends an email requesting certain documentation for the credit card application ( which I donot send but he finds the information within Wells Fargo 's own records ) and including a credit card disclosure statement. The disclosure says that there is a balance transfer fee of 3 %. I emailed - questioning the discrepancy between the $0.00 fee he represented and the 3 % balance transfer fee in the disclosure statement. - -, 2013 - He emails back that the fee is $0.00, which he writes, " was in the offer and will be in the disclosures that are being mailed to you. '' I still did n't see the - balance transfer fee in what he sent, but decided to wait and see what the disclosure that comes with the card will say. A week or so later - The card arrives. Not only is the balance transfer fee not $0.00, it is 4 % - higher than the 3 % in the disclosure that was sent. I made several calls to Wells Fargo to inquire about the discrepancy and was informed that there were no 0 % balance transfer fee offers and that I must have misunderstood. In the end I made a huge fuss, wrote to the manager and cc 'd - -, among others and received " an exception '' to allow me a 0 % balance transfer. My problem was solved, but I wonder if similar misrepresentations were made to others.
