Wells Fargo closed my credit card without notice. I 've had an account with them since -/-/- ; it 's the oldest on my credit report. I have never made a late payment. Today, I received a letter dated -/-/- stating that my account had been closed due to inactivity for 6 months. When I called them, they stated that they would have to do another hard pull of my credit report in order to reopen the account. This puts me between a rock and a hard place : the closure of my oldest account, which has perfect payment history, is obviously bad for my credit score. But a hard inquiry for a credit card will also hurt my credit score for the next two years. Wells Fargo claims that they sent a letter on -/-/-, indicating that they would close my account if I did not respond. There is no way to know if this is true, as I never received this letter and it was not sent via certified mail. I was also on


Customer service representatives confirm that WF did not call me, email me, or send me a secure message via their website. It is my belief that they intended for me *not* to receive this message - considering that they have exclusively delivered my credit card electronically, for years, I see no other reason why WF would eschew modern means of communication. It is absurd and unacceptable Wells Fargo would silently terminate what is by far my longest credit relationship - I opened the account at age - ; I am now - - without any notice. The expression " - '' has never felt more pertinent : in exchange for responsible use of credit, they have forced me into a situation that is *guaranteed* to adversely affect my credit score.
