Citibank Credit card department,
Unsolicited issuance of credit card Washington
Recently, Costco terminated their agreement with - in favor of an agreement with Citibank. Without customer authorization of any kind, they opened a new account and issued a VISA card. I had no balance on my -, as I do n't carry a balance so there was no outstanding balance to transfer. I did not activate the card, but I went to Costco - and told them I did n't want a VISA. I got a regular Costco membership card ( with no credit features ) and destroyed the Citibank VISA I had received. Then, Costco charged a membership renewal fee to the VISA card ( that I destroyed and told them I did not want ). When I called to complain, they said it would take -16 business days to remove the charge, so I could pay the membership fee in cash. That would cause a late fee on the Citibank VISA card, as 14 business days is after the due date - even though I called as soon as I got my statement. Costco should not have been able to issue a credit card that was not requested, activate it - to charge a membership fee ), and fail to cancel it upon notification that I did not want the card.
