Payoff process California

I had an account with Synchrony Care Credit. I was unable to pay for some time. I have been calling the Synchrony customer service in an attempt to resume payments or pay off the debt. Synchrony is refusing to allow me to do so because they are saying that the account is pending to be sold or assigned. This is holding me up from qualifying for a VA loan.
