Amex Credit card department,
American Express ( " Amex '' ) arbitrarily and fraudulently revoked - American Express Membership Rewards points ( the " Points '' ) worth in excess of $1000.00 from my credit card account without authorization and in violation of the terms of my cardmember agreement. Amex representatives had previously verbally confirmed to me that the Points would not be revoked from my account and Amex is currently refusing to honor the explicit promises made by their phone support agent. Full issue : I was approved for an Amex Platinum credit card on - -, 2016. My account was opened under an offer to receive - Points after spending $3000.00 within three months. The value of the - Points is at minimum $1000.00 based on their ability to be redeemed for credit card statement credit. I fulfilled all offer requirements with a total spend of $5900.00 from card opening to - -, 2016.
I called Amex customer support and explicitly asked whether cancelling my account would result in the loss of the - Points. The agent explicitly assured me that they would not, especially because I have other Amex card accounts open. Relying upon these statements, I decided to cancel the card. On - -, 2016, Amex arbitrarily and fraudulently removed - Points from my account. There was no rationale provided to me. I called support to inquire and was told that this was a " corporate decision '' relating to my cancellation of the card which could not be overturned. The removal of the - Points was fraudulent. There were no stipulations in my original agreement regarding revocation of Points in this situation. Additionally, the Amex representative explicitly promised that my Points would not be revoked upon cancellation and Amex should be bound by the promises made by its agent. If Amex is allowed to take away Points arbitrarily in cases like this, what is stopping them from taking away all of my Points or arbitrarily adding charges to my bill? Thanks for your help in resolving this matter.
