Credit card Cont'd attempts collect debt not owed debt is not mine
Citibank Debt collection department,
Credit card Cont'd attempts collect debt not owed Debt is not mine Georgia
Late last year I discovered that - - has been reporting a collection account in my name to -, and they have been reporting this collection for several years ( since -/-/- ). I did not apply for an account with the original creditor ( Citibank ). I have never held a credit card from them and I have never received any documentation from the original creditor this account was for. I also have never received ANY communication, written or via phone call, from - - to notify this debt was passed to their office. I only became aware of this account when checking my credit report for the first time in several years. After becoming aware of the collection account I sent a certified letter to - - on about - -, - requesting that they validate the debt they were reporting to -.
Frustrated, I filed a direct dispute online with -, using the reason " This account was fraudulently opened by someone who stole my identity ''. Surprisingly, the dispute came back " verified '' and no change was made regarding this account on my credit report. I now realize that the incorrect " dispute reason '' was probably used, nevertheless I have no previous knowledge of this account so it made sense to me. Still frustrated I called - - and asked for their mailing address to send a letter regarding an account. The person on the phone gave me the following address : - - - -, T- -. On - -, - I again mailed them via certified mail requesting validation of this collection account. Again the mailed letter was returned to me undelivered! At this point I feel that something very unscrupulous is going on and this - - company is intentionally making it difficult for consumers like me to exercise my rights by requesting validation of negative information that they have been reporting on me for years. Their business practices are unethical at best and appear to be in violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
