Amex Credit card department,
Dear CFPB, I participated in a credit card promotion with American Express whereby I would receive - Membership Rewards points after spending $3000.00 in 3 months. I received the card in mid - 2016 and received the bonus only a few weeks later on - -, 2016. I had met the eligible spend and then returned a few purchases but did not realize that the returns put me below the eligible spend until - -. The reason I was unaware is because American Express did not adjust my points balance until nearly 3 months after the fact. The reason for this dispute is that I find it deceptive how American Express did not adjust my points balance in a timely manner or notify me to allow me to rectify the situation. I ended up being only about $450.00 below the spending requirement, which I surely would have been able to do had I known I was below the requirement. American Express should not have awarded me these bonus points AND kept the points in my account for more than two months after the returns. It therefore became very difficult for me to keep track of my status in terms of the points promotion and spending requirements.
