Checking account Problems caused by my funds being low California
I opted out of debit card overdraft protection with Bank of the West because I thought that it meant that any payment from my debit card would be declined if I did n't have enough funds. According to their website, overdraft protection covers automatic payments and recurring debit card transactions. I forgot about an automatic debit payment that the bank allowed to go through, totally my fault for forgetting, but I became overdrawn by $7.00 so they charged me a $35.00 fee. When I called to find out why and to have them explain it to me, one person told me it was at the bank 's discretion to allow things to go through and then she hung up on me so I called back and another person told me that it did n't apply to automatic debit card transactions but from what I understand it does.
