Amex Credit card department,
I have over - American Express membership rewards points ( value of over $1000.00 ) that I have earned and that appear as available on my account to use for travel booking and transfer to travel partner programs. However, American Express will not let me use or transfer any of my points as they advertise. Their website tells me my transfer requests can not be completed and when I called their customer service line to find out why, I was told that although my account is in good standing, it is " under review '' and no points can be used until the review is over. The rep could not tell me why it is under review or what the review consists of, nor could she put me in touch with anyone who could provide more information. She said the review process takes 6-8 weeks, but my account has been under review since -/-/16, which is already almost 12 weeks. She could not give me a date or any indication of when this review period would end and I would be able to use the points I have earned. There is a $450.00 annual fee for the American Express Platinum card, plus another $170.00 fee for adding authorized users, both of which I have paid. For that price it is unacceptable that I can not use the rewards that the card earned, with no information whatsoever about the reason or the date that they will be restored. Award travel needs to be booked far in advance, and the inability to use my points now will cost me in terms of price and availability of the travel rewards I plan to redeem.
