Amex Credit card department,
I applied for the American Express - card with a - Membership Rewards points bonus offer. The terms of the offer stated that the - points would be available within 6-8 weeks of meeting the minimum spend requirement. The - points did post to my account, but I was told by an American Express representative that everyone who applied for the - point bonus offer would have their Membership Rewards account locked and be unable to redeem their points for 6-8 weeks. An American Express agent I spoke to confirmed that it has been over 8 weeks since I met the minimum spend requirement and since my Membership Rewards account was locked, but that my points can still not be redeemed. He also said it was not possible for somebody to manually unlock the account, and that I would need to wait until the system automatically unlocks the points. He said there was no date by which the points are guaranteed to be unlocked, and that I will need to wait for an indefinite period of time to redeem my points. This applies not only to the - points that I earned from the bonus offer, but to all of my Membership Rewards points, including those I earned from other cards before signing up for the bonus offer. Essentially, all of my Membership Rewards points that I earned in accordance with their terms are unusable until an unknown date, and nobody at American Express can fix the issue or tell me when the issue will be fixed, despite the date that their terms said the points would be available having passed.
