Credit card Improper contact or sharing of info Talked to a third party about my debt New York
Synchrony Bank, acting for JCPenney, claims I have an unpaid credit card debt in the amount of $47.00 from - -, - - that is NOT a typo, it is nearly 14 years ago. Over ten years ago I filed for personal bankruptcy ( - -, PA ) ; I believed all outstanding debts were discharged and all credit accounts were closed. In - - ( last year ) Synchrony wanted to collect $360.00 on that old debt. I emailed and said I did not owe it ; I called and spoke to them, saying there had been an error. I heard nothing further from them until last week. They write that they made " attempts '' to collect this amount, sending additional statements with its accruing fees, that in - - they wrote off the new total of $540.00 " as a loss due to non-receipt of payment. '' Subsequently, they have reported me to Transunion ( and possibly other credit
I dispute the original amount - and I am livid over the usurious fees arbitrarily added to that amount when they failed in their duty to contact me so I could resolve this issue in a timely manner. In all honesty I believe them to be a debt-collection agency with some pretentious notion that styling themselves " bank '' will garner more results. I find this appalling. And I 'm none too happy that I 'm having to spend hours of my time to address this, especially since I think the chances of the compounded error ever being corrected are small-to-none. - - -
