My husband and I both had and IRA account that had matured and we wanted to roll our money into an IRA at another bank offering a better rate. We went in person and asked that the check be made out to the name of the other bank - our name like we have done numerous times over the years. They said they could only make it out to us which would generate a - on each. They said the receiving bank could request it sent electronically, but we would each have to pay a $25.00 fee. The IRA/CD rates are so low that we should not have to pay to get our money. We took the check to save the fees, we will receive - on each and our new bank will provide documentation we will have to provide when we pay our taxes. Is this legal?
