I put $7000.00 in an IRA CD at .5 % for 19 months. I never was told of any maintenance fee when iniating the CD. 9 months later ( -/-/- ) I was sent a letter from US Bank wanting a yearly fee of $30.00. At most I will actually have the meager $35.00 go for fee and federal taxes this year, and as I complete the remaining 7 months of the CD, wo n't make enough to pay fees and taxes. In addition, the letter said that if I do not mail in the yearly fee, US Bank will take it out of the CD. If I had been given this information on the cd document of the fee, there would have been no transaction. No other bank that has my IRS impose such a fee, especially in this concealed manner. I would be financially ahead by putting my $7000.00 under my mattress! I complained to US Bank. They say that they will waive fee. I wait to see. However, how many retirees suffering from low interest rates are actually only paying back banks with maintenance fees that should have been meager interest in the retirees income? State the amount invested, percent interest, term, and disclose any maintenance fees on front of cd at minimum. This the first bank to do this in all my years of participating. been given information on the cd document of this fee, there would have been transaction.
