Citibank Credit card department,
I applied for credit with Best Buy ( Citi Bank ) online. I was approved the same date and made a purchase on the Bestbuy.com website for approximately $3900.00 The motivation for using their credit card was 10 % cash back offer. I received purchase confirmation from the store and the balance appeared on the credit card web login page. I paid the amount in full via electronic payment from my bank. - days later I received a notice from the store stating the purchase was cancelled due to the payment being withdrawn. I contacted Bestbuy credit ( Citibank ) who advised me they had a fraud alert on the account. I provided all my personal information to them. They stated their practice is to cross reference a public record from a cell phone account to verify my identity ( something that was not done to approve the new account ). I only have a pay as you go-no contract phone so they could not confirm my identity via their normal methods. I requested the account to be closed and the $3900.00 I paid to be refunded to the account it was paid from. They said since they could not confirm that I was who I said I was they would not process my request. Now I have no product and I do not have the $3900.00 I paid to them and they refuse to refund my account.
