My wife and I applied to open a joint online savings account at GS Bank on - -. After 3 days of not hearing from them, I called them to check status of the account opening. Representative indicated they were declining to open an account because they could not verify my wife 's identity. GS Bank did not explain why they were unable to verify the identity of my wife of over 10 years, despite us both having many other joint accounts and credit cards with other banks over the years. Representative said a letter would be forthcoming from GS Bank explaining reason for declination, however, no such letter has arrived. Having supplied GS Bank with all of our personal information in order to apply, I find it unconscionable that they can refuse to open the account, not explain why, and yet continue to keep all of our information on file. Representative indicated they would keep the information on file as a declined application.
