Checking account Problems caused by my funds being low New York

I have a checking account with Citi and the bank has a feature called Checking Plus which is activated when my account went into overdraft. Once the overdraft happened, Citi essentially creates a loan with the overdraft amount. However, unlike other banks where a subsequent deposit would go towards the overdraft, Citi does not used the deposit to repay the overdraft line of credit. Instead, it starts charging double digit interests on the overdraft amount and just takes the monthly minimum payment from my regular checking account. I just discovered this when I looked at my banking statement more closely. Basically, even though I have more than enough in deposits to cover the overdraft, Citi has been charging me double digit interest rates on the so-called loan. I did n't even know when the overdraft had occurred and it seems like it 's been more than 1.5 years ( since that 's how far their online system goes ) and I 've been paying close to 20 % APR on this so called convenience that they provide for their bank customers. I do n't think this is a consumer friendly practice and this product is almost purposefully designed to get consumers to pay way more for the little convenience that they had offered for covering for the overdraft. I have never seen this practice at other banks and I think this is predatory behavior on the bank 's part.
