(CD) Certificate of deposit Deposits and withdrawals New Jersey

a certificate of deposit which I have left to automatically renew for over ten years recently went dormant. The only way I found out what happened was to ask the - bank and trust why I did not receive the monthly statement. I think they should have notified me first. I understand there can be legal complications which arise from dormancy. Do n't think this should be allowed.
