Wells Fargo Credit card department,
In - of -, I took out a 12 month interest free loan from Wells Fargo to purchase furniture. I immediately set up automatic payments to pay about $500.00 per month on the loan. Then in early -, - I called Wells Fargo to get an accurate pay-off amount to avoid over or under paying the loan. The representative told me the interest free period ends in - and to contact Wells Fargo at that time to pay off the loan. I contacted Wells Fargo on - - to get the pay off balance. They told me the interest free period expired on - - and that I owed the full $4000.00 in interest accrued for the entire year ( 27.99 % interest rate!! ). I explained that I called in - and wanted to pay it off then and was told to wait. I told them to listen to the recorded phone call. They ignored me and then offered to take off $2000.00 of interest only if I paid immediately. I declined and the representative said it would go into dispute and threatened that interest would still be charged up to 60 days more. Based on my phone records, it is obvious my intent was to pay off the loan to avoid interest charges. I have a high credit score and have no problems paying off the loan. What are my options?
