Checking account Problems caused by my funds being low California

i have over $400.00 dlrs in overdraft fees. Prior to this problem i had checked my account and had a small balance of $17.00 dlrs ( about ) and that was on a Friday, about tues of the following week i checked my account and was already over $300.00 dlrs overdrawn. I called the bank explain to them that my account was ok on Friday and a few days later was overdrawn more then $400.00 dlrs and i had not used my debit card since the $17.00 balance, i was told that my balance was not accurate because they do not post every transaction therefore it causes the overdrafts and that i had no choice but to pay.
