First Niagara Bank Credit card department,
Customer service / Customer relations New York
For the first time in roughly 2 years, I had used an old credit card from First Niagara for a charge of $27.00 on -/-/15. The balance immediately began accruing interest and on -/-/15, I made a payment of the current balance of $27.00. The following day, the payment had n't gone thru and the balance accrued another $0.00 in interest. I spoke to - at First Niagara who advised that the payment takes 48 hours to show but when the payment goes thru it will back date any accrued interest thus wiping them off the balance. Once the payment of $27.00 finally went thru on -/-/15 the additional interest ( which grew to $0.00 ) was not wiped off as I was initially promised. I spoke to - again who advised that what he had told me initially was not true and that loan would still accrue interest and payments that take 48 hours to process do not get back dated to the date of the original payment and he refused to remove the additional interest even though he admitted his mistake. He assured me though that the balance would not accrue any further interest so I went ahead
-/-/15 which she had done. She also advised that - once again provided me with misleading information in that the balance was still accruing interest. She said that she would freeze the account so that it would no longer accrue interest since it was " clear I was attempting to pay off the card. '' I also paid an additional $0.00 towards the balance that day in an attempt to pay off the balance once and for all. - my payment and - 's $0.00 credit went thru and my balance was down to $0.00 on -/-/15. However, on -/-/15, despite the card having a balance of $0.00, it somehow accrued an additional $0.00 of interest. I called again and this time spoke to Georgia, who tied to tell me that the interest was accruing because I used the card. I explained to her that the balance was $0.00 and asked how a $0.00 balance could accrue interest as there was no principal balance. She did not have an explanation for this and stated that she would also credit my account the $0.00 of interest. I asked Georgia to cancel this card because of the aggravation it was causing and seemingly impossible nature to pay it off. It was also disheartening to receive so much misleading information from the representatives that I had spoken with.
