I bank with Chase bank. I deposited a check, Chase claimed the check came back NSF, therefore did not credit me the funds and charged me a return check fee. The check was given to me by a family member so I validated whether this was accurate or not, upon speaking to my family member I was told she was sure the funds were there before the check was written and were still there at this point. I told her to call her bank, she did and informed me her bank said they never received the check. I called Chase and the agent kept claiming that per their records the check was NSF and returned, it is worth noting the agent had a bad attitude and was rude. I wound up 3 way calling the bank ( -, so technically not a bank ) and had the agent at - - inform the agent from Chase that they never received the check. The agent from Chase apologized and reversed the returned check fee. While this is an appropriate reaction, I want to know why I deposited a check, Chase bank did not present the check to the maker 's bank and then claimed they did and it came back NSF, when had they presented the check it would have cleared because the funds where there ( I even saw this evidenced ). As an - I can say this is a very serious operational failure.
