I moved out of an apartment but the gas bill was not transferred correctly to the new tenant. As I had moved out of state, I received no bill for the months that the service was being billed incorrectly to me. I had no idea that the mistake had occurred for over a year, when I received a call from Source Receivables credit agency notifying me that they were attempting to collect a debt. I initially spoke with - ( employee ID unknown ), who told me that if I paid in full that day the issue would not impact my credit, but that if I chose to wait and dispute the claim with the gas company it might negatively impact my credit. I chose to pay the claim in full to avoid potential consequences to my credit. I left the call feeling as though this was a positive encounter. A few months later, I came to learn that the claim was still showing up on my credit report despite my having paid it in full, and that it was negatively impacting my middle credit score. This was surprising to me, as I had been told by Source Receivables staff
to her supervisor, - ( Employee ID # - ). - was extremely rude and aggressive on the phone and told me that he would not remove the claim under any circumstances. When I asked for more information about what would be needed to have this record removed, he would not provide me with more information. When I asked to speak with his supervisor, - refused. When I inquired about the company 's grievance process, - refused to provide information about this process. I feel as though was lied to by Source Receivables staff about how this information would impact my credit, and then was denied access to critical information about how to file a grievance against lying, rude, and aggressive employees.
