I am the co-signer for - student loans for my daughter that was taken out in 2007. She has had extenuating circumstances in her life that resulted in not being able to pay the loan and it defaulted. Now that she is getting back on her feet she is trying to fix her credit. She called Navient to work out a payment plan. They gave her a payment plan they she has been on since -. The loans are being reported as a charge off. As a result, that 's the way it 's reported on my credit report and I can not get a mortgage loan until the loan is paid off. The understand that I am just as responsible for the loan because I am a co-signer but I do n't think it 's fair that the credit report says charge off when she is actively making payments.
