On -/-/-, I issued a Chase Bank check # - in the amount of $500.00 to - - for work performed at our house. The next day - - informed me that he 'd lost the check. I contacted Chase Bank and they instructed me to issue a stop payment on the check and reissue a replacement check. They advised me to wait a few days to make sure the original check did not clear the bank. On -/-/-, I placed a stop payment on check # - and was charged a $25.00 fee by Chase. On -/-/-, I issued - - the replacement check # - in the amount of $470.00 - I deducted $25.00 for the stop payment fee. ). This check cleared the bank on -/-/-. On -/-/- I noticed that the original check # - was cashed by - - even though a stop payment had been issued by Chase Bank and the check was over one year old.
1. They did not honor the stop payment that was issued. 2. They cashed a " stale '' check that was over one year old. As a consumer, I did everything in my power to prevent this check from being cashed. I issued and paid for a stop payment and I waited 4 days before issuing a replacement check. Chase Bank has culpability for acting negligently in ignoring the stop payment and in cashing a very old check. I have contacted JP Morgan/Chase and they refuse to reimburse the $500.00 and will not allow me to file a complaint and/or escalate this claim.
