PayPal Credit card department,
Customer service / Customer relations Massachusetts
A couple months ago, I was completing a transaction online and using my PayPal account was an option. As part of the checkout process, I was asked for my name and birth date. I thought they were updating their records. I came to learn they were issuing me a credit line for $5000.00 through PayPal Credit, which I did not want. I was annoyed by this, but not enough to do anything. Instead, I resolved never to use it. I would opt out in favor of the credit card they had on file. - day, about a month ago, as I was signing into my PayPal Account to complete another transaction, I was automatically checked out with PayPal Credit for $15.00 and some change! I was not given the option to opt out. I paid it in full, contacted them immediately and told them that their lending practices were deceptive and predatory and that I wanted them to cancel the card. Instead, they sent me a return email, asking me to contact them to discuss the issue. I called on - and cancelled the card. I consider myself fairly savvy and for this to happen to me means that it could happen to anyone. Basically, PayPal Credit co-opted a portion of my good name and credit without my knowing it. Now, I have to take a hit to my credit score for closing the account. I understand that they were fined $25.00 - in the spring for this kind of behavior. There are those who do n't think it was nearly enough! That is apparently the case, as I am living proof that the practices for which they were fined continue.
