In - -, I opened a Best Buy credit card to purchase a TV, interest free if paid within 5 years. In - -, I fell behind on payments. I rec 'd a call from a Best Buy rep who stated that I was only a few payments behind and that if I paid the past due debt I would be all caught up. The rep also stated that I can continue my monthly payments, interest free, and be restored back to normal status. With that in mind, I set up auto-pay to my checking and continued to pay for the next year, receiving my monthly e-bill from BestBuy and receipt that the month was paid. Then, in - -, I received a bill that had a late payment on it. I called best BestBuy and stated that I had Auto-payment and sufficient money in my account to cover the monthly debit. They stated that the account was sold to Citigroup and to call them. I called Citigroup and asked for the late payment to be removed and informed them that I had made an agreement with BestBuy to pay late payment the year prior, and subscribed to auto-pay. Citigroup

Now, 6 months later, the account went into default and Citigroup added on the total interest charges for a bill of over $2000.00 ( which just prior was $700.00 remaining on payments, absent the late '' charges ). I believe that BestBuy is obligated to honor our agreement that I be able to continue my interest free monthly payments in accordance with our original contract. I also believe that the late payments, interest charges, and charge-off that now reflect on my credit reports should be removed, and that Citigroup and BestBuy should be fined for violated consumer credit protection laws.
