In -/-/-, I was sold '' a medical line of credit by my dentist called Care Credit ''. The line of credit was for a dental procedure for my - children. This was the only charge ever on this account. It was opened specifically for this procedure. I was told that the credit was interest-free for 12 months. I have paid the full, original charge. Today, -/-/-, I was notified via email of a $9.00 late payment. I called the credit card company, now called Synchrony Bank, and ask them why I was late? According to them, I still owe - $300.00. As it turns out, my card is not actually interest free for the
12 months interest-free period expired, not the original 12 months since the card was sold to me as 12 months interest free, but they refused. Every month I am emailed an invoice summary telling me just the amount that is owed and the minimum payment due. Nowhere on these emails does it show that the interest is accruing over the first 12 months and will be deferred. I also spoke to a supervisor. The supervisor told me that it is my responsibility to login to their web site - as their emails do not have any information on the deferred nature of the interest ) in order to read their terms. I told her that expecting to log on to examine changes from what was sold to me is not transparent behavior. She told me that I should not have signed up for online statements because I would have otherwise seen the deferred interest accruing on the paper statement. She also called the first 12 months interest free while I was on the phone with her and then went on to say that on the - month I was charged the deferred interest. I explained to her that interest free and interest deferred are - different things, but she insists that what they are doing is the same as interest free. The supervisor 's name is - with ID # -.
