I received a letter from Credit Managementt L.P. of -, - requesting payment of $56.00 on behalf of - -. I replied to them with the information that I have never lived in - or anywhere in -, that no family member or anyone for whom I might have fiscal responsibility has ever lived in - and that I have never had an account with - -. I requested that they provide verification of the debt - in particular the account information from - showing when the account was opened, by whom, and the date the debt was created. Their sole response was that they had talked to - and verified the debt. This seems extremely insufficient to me and I am not inclined to pay a bill just because someone says-so. I am surprised that they have such a business model, where they expect to extract monies from consumers simply by sending letters demanding money. I would also be surprised if that kind of demand was even legal - I would expect that they would be legally required to provide some proof of the debt beyond what they have provided, which is no proof at all. It is not my burden to prove that I do not owe a debt, it is theirs to prove that I do. I have responded to them indicating that I will not pay anything until concrete proof that the debt is mine is provided to me, and I will further register a complaint with the -.
