Credit card Disclosure verification of debt Right to dispute notice not received New York
Did not receive ANY communication regarding overdue payment from Macy 's credit card, nor notice of it having been sent for collection. I only became aware of the debt upon taking my credit report. When I called Macy 's credit card and asked about this, pointing out that although I had moved, I had mail forwarding in place, I was told that Macy 's does not allow the post office to forward their mail - they must instead return it to Macy 's. I was told that this practice is legal because it is stated in the original agreement. I do not understand how a company is allowed to have a practice that clearly makes it impossible for them to notify a customer who has moved about possible overdue payments. I had no recollection of owing money to Macy 's, and in addition to not receiving a reminder letter I have not received any phone calls ( my number has not changed ) or e-mails to that effect either ( I do, however, still get Macy 's ads and member deal reminders via e-mail ). My credit score has suffered considerably as a result of the lack of communication from Macy 's. I am in the process of buying a house, and a small debt - less than a $100.00 - will now likely cost me thousands of dollars in higher mortgage rates. I find this entirely unfair, as I would obviously have paid the bill if I had know it existed.
