Other (phone, health club, etc.) Disclosure verification of debt Right to dispute notice not received New York
A year ago I was contacted by a company that said I owed them for a health club bill that was paid. With the help of a family friend I wrote a letter requested validation of debt and they stopped calling. This week I was contacted by - ''. They told me I was going to be served and I should contact -. I called the number and they answered the phone claims office ''. I was scared so I gave them my credit card information. I then called my dad who told me to cancel the payment because that did n't sound legal so I did. Today I received more calls from - - at - '' an unknown number who told me they were going to serve me today. I checked the NY - - - website and found no company under this name. I also received a letter from American Credit Resolution. The letter offered me a settlement but never offered my the opportunity to get verification. I believe the company failed to provide me validation of debt. I believe the employees of the - were actually employees of American Credit Resolution. I believe they misrepresented themselves and this was a veiled threat since I thought I was going to be sued.
