PayPal Credit card department,
Unsolicited issuance of credit card California
PayPal opened a credit account for me without my knowledge or consent. I only knew because I got a notice from my credit monitoring service that my account had been accessed by PayPal. When I called PayPal, I was told I had opened the account by clicking on the credit button, checking off the Terms of Service box, and keying in my birthdate and last - of my social security number ... none of which I 'd done. When I escalated to a supervisor, I was told you obviously made a mistake ... perhaps you have autofill on your computer. '' It was only after the conversation that I searched the web and discovered PayPal had been charged a $ - penalty and forced to pay $ - in fines in - for this behavior. The fraud is still going on. I am 1000 % certain I did not sign up for their credit account, which I requested they immediately close. Still, my FICO credit score has been dinged because of my inquiry to open new credit, which was done without my knowledge or permission.
