I was charged interest on a recent credit card statement of - which was onerous given that I had sent - checks in the same envelope for the entire balance minus -. - check was for - and the other check was for -. I had made an error in my math as I normally pay in full which is why I noticed an interest charge. Given there was only - balance remaining I was mystified that I could have accrued - interest charge. After much repetition of their policy of charging interest on the average purchase balance I finally got the supervisor to tell me how that average purchase balance was calculated in my case. They applied the check of - and for whatever reason, tho they posted having received the - check as well on the same day, it was not included in the adjustment to my balance owing. Meaning, they calculated interest on a liability they did not have as they calculated it as tho the - had never been received, tho it is clearly posted. They immediately credited me back the interest, but I was upset for all the people less fortunate than I who could


not fraud. And who and how and what gets to decide to credit the - and not the $--if they were only going to credit one check before calculating interest, is it legal to only credit the check with the smallest amount paid in? What's up with that? The whole thing screams of fraud to me and made me sick to my stomach. Again, I am blessed and have the resources to pay in full and get credited when something snarky is done as I am a good customer, but what about all the others who are not so blessed, nor persistent, or just plain careful when they read their statement?
