PayPal Credit card department,
Unsolicited issuance of credit card Ohio
I signed up for a new Paypal account today. At the end of the sign up, the screen prompted me for the last - digits of my social security number and had a button to click next to it. This appeared to be the regular process for creating the new account. The next page said I was approved for $1500.00 in Paypal Credit. I immediately called the - number to customer service to see how this happened. They told me that when I entered the last - digits of my SSN and clicked on the button, I agreed to sign up for their credit service. I did n't see anything on the page about Paypal Credit until after I had been approved. It was very deceptive. They closed the credit account over the phone but said there was nothing they could do about the hard inquiry on my credit report. They said I could write a letter and fax it to Paypal Credit to request they remove the inquiry. This entire process was deceptive and confusing. It appears that you must fill your last - digits of your SSN to sign up for Paypal, but what you are really doing is signing up for Paypal Credit.
