We had 19 month CD with U.S. Bank which was apparently automatically rolled over for another 19 months at maturity. The problem is that rate is extremely low ( 0.15 % ) and not competitive. When we asked what the cost would be to terminate the new CD we were told a $25.00 fee, which is fine, plus a 3.0 % penalty, which is ridiculous. We were expecting to a few month 's worth of interest as a penalty.
