PayPal Credit card department,
Unsolicited issuance of credit card Washington
I have used PayPal for years, with my charges being deducted from my bank account. I enjoy the convenience of PayPal while shopping online without having to enter my credit card number for each transaction. Earlier this year I began receiving emails saying I owe PayPay Credit money. I never knowingly applied for credit with PayPal. I called right away and settled the account, asked it to be closed, and also asked how I ended up with a credit line from them. They were unable to provide a good explanation on how the account was open. I have since received more emails saying I owe an additional balance. I assumed it was an error until I received a collection call today. The collectors were rude and demanding. It turns out that I did make purchases that I thought would be coming out of my bank account, as they had before, but instead ended up on a credit line that I had previously closed. I settled the amount of my original charges after finally getting the collector to waive late fees and finance charges. My biggest concern ( besides getting called at work on an account that should never have existed ) is that I still do not know how I ended up with a PayPal credit line, and that others may end up in the same situation. I am responsible enough with my debts to know what I owe and what I do n't. My fear is that others who are less diligent will have accounts open and accrue late charges and interest without ever meaning to. In my opinion PayPal credit was deceptive, if not fraudulent, in how I got a line of credit in the first place. Practices such as this should not be allowed. Now I ca n't use the convenience of PayPal for fear that the charges will again end up as a debt instead of coming out of my bank account.
