Credit card Communication tactics Threatened to take legal action New York

I was informed by my Mother that she was contacted by the - - - with a court order document # - and that I am required to appear in court and a telephone number was left for me to return the call. I then called and was transferred to a - - - who claims to be a Paralegal for - - -. I was told that a creditor is seeking a lawsuit for the amount of $1900.00 and that if I am willing to resolve this amount and if I am not that the suit will be forthgoing. They stated that they have attempted to send correspondence to my residence ( which I never received ) the address he stated was incorrect. I am not sure if this is legal under the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and I am hoping to get assistance in preventing additional calls and legal proceedings.
