Citibank Credit card department,
Costco switched exclusive credit card companies in 2016 from - ( - ) to Citi. We had our - card setup for auto payments and were n't getting a paper statement. At some point we changed addresses and did n't think to update the - card with the new address ( why would we, we were auto paying ). When Citi took over at Costco we had a balance on our - account get transferred to Citi. The Citi company says they sent a statement to our old address, but we never received it, nor did we receive a phone call. Over the next several months ( - through - I believe ) our account received approximately $130.00 of late fees and interest charges. We were finally contacted by a debt collector in -. The debt collector gave us a number at Citi to contact for dispute. Upon calling - Citi informed us they could n't comment on the account, it had been locked out by legal department. Only way to get any information and have the account unlocked so they could help was to pay the debt collector. After several calls we decided to pay the debt collector even though we were unsure if our account had fraudulent charges ( again, we knew nothing about the policy to send our account balance to Citi ). Upon paying the Citi we called back to the dispute department. After several weeks our account was unlocked but closed. The dispute team could n't refund our money and said there was nothing that could be done due to our account being closed. We submitted a letter to dispute and it was ruled in favor of Citi.
