My fiance and I both have individual credit card accounts with Synchrony Bank, along with one joint account ( account is in both our names ). I received notification from Synchrony that they had added two of my individual accounts ( accounts in my name only ) to my fiance 's online profile. This means that he has access not only to his individual Synchrony accounts and our joint account, but also to the account information for credit cards in my name only. Synchrony should NOT have exposed my personal information from my 2 individual accounts to him ; he did not have those account numbers nor my social security number, and did nothing to facilitate those accounts being made available to him. This is unacceptable and a mis-management of my personal information. I spent about an hour on the phone with Synchrony, explaining the issue to 3 different people. No one took ownership of the issue ; instead, they told me " it could n't happen '' ( in spite of the emails I received from them and confirmation from my fiance that those accounts were displayed to him as being able to add to his profile ) ;

I have no idea if this issue only occurs in scenarios where people share a joint account through Synchrony and also have individual accounts, or, if there is an even larger bug in their system where they are exposing my account information to people I do n't even know. Synchrony must be able to discern which accounts are appropriate to show an individual. Only the joint accounts should be exposed, along with only the individual accounts belonging to that person, and NOT the unrelated individual accounts belonging to the other joint cardholder. Synchrony needs to take greater responsibility in handling the private data of its customers, and most certainly needs to train their customer and fraud support teams to listen to and act on customer complaints when a privacy violation has occurred.
