I am a identify theft victim and all my credit reports have a identify theft alert on them. My credit file also had an opt-out for promotional inquiries. This is evident from 2 of my other credit reports - & -. I recently requested for my credit report from all 3 agencies. I received my TransUnion report added -/-/2017 and was alarmed that they they opted me in for promotional inquiries without my consent. Yesterday -/-/2017, I called TransUnion to opt-out of promotional inquiries because i had opted-out earlier when implementing my fraud alert and was surprised by this violation. Over the 2 years I have been harassed by credit ( e.g., - ) and other insurance offers but I had no idea why. When I called, they redirected my calls from one dep. to the other, transferring me to their Fraud Alert Dept. -, assigning new File # -, escalating to supervisors and giving me a run around just so I may not be able to opt-out of promotional inquiries. As a result of their violation, them have sold my data and personal details, address info which makes me a target of credit offers and identify theft. Promotional inquiring companies may have created 3-party databases and selling my data on the free market without my consent. This is major risk to my credit file and data contained therein. The request was simple - I needed to opt-out of Promotional Inquiries. But they went through extraordinary measures to prevent a fraudulent update of just of my opt-out request. I was n't impersonating anyone or asking for new credit. TransUnion was very opposed to my update and fought me and harassed me so that they can continue to sell my credit data. Their motive was simple. They make money on promotional inquiries even though these soft requests do not affect my credit score. But that is no reason to violate my privacy and my credit file without my consent. I left a message yesterday and they did not call back. Only around - on - - did I get a call and a voicemail. Once again asking me to call them back.
