Vehicle loan Problems when you are unable to pay New York
I purchased my vehicle from Credit Acceptance Corporation in - 2013. I recently fell behind on my payments by 45 days. On - - around - - -. they repossessed my vehicle. I was supposed to be notified by letter 24 hours prior to this according to NY State law. The person who picked up my vehicle said to give him a call when I paid and I could pick it up after the loan company sent a release. I called Credit Acceptance immediately and was told I owed $670.00 ( - payments plus late fees ) I made and arrangement to pay on - -, which I did ( less than 48 hours later ). I was told by the loan company that I could pick up my vehicle and to call the towing company to make arrangements. When I called I was told that my vehicle had been picked up by the auction company that morning. I made 5 more calls to Credit Acceptance on Friday trying to locate my vehicle. I was first told it was n't at the auction house yet. I requested an address, which they said they could not give me. I was then told they could not contact them and Someone would call me back, which they never did.. Finally I was told that they were closed for the day and to call back Monday. I called 3 times Monday -, -, and - - finally getting my vehicle released. I was told it was now in -, NY ( - miles away ). I made arrangements to pick it up Wednesday -. I was told that the plates had been removed and to contact the towing company in -, NY. My issue is that I had to make a total of 13 phone calls, I was charged $40.00 to get my plates and personal effects back from the towing company. I now have to take an afternoon off work to travel to -, incur fuel and toll charges AND I was charged an additions $85.00 by my loan company for transportation.
