i received offer from 'Avant ' in the mail, for a loan. took $4500.00 loan, terms were for 3 years, $ -/mo. payments. After 12 mos. I wanted to pay it off. I had paid a total of $2200.00. They demanded $3400.00 for a payoff amount. I wanted to clear up the bill, and that was the only way. The balance would have been $2200.00. They charged me an extra $1100.00 to pay it off. They stated when I talked to them that my rate was 28.4 %. This makes it over 50 %. I know it was n't a great idea to get a loan under these circumstances, but needed the money at that time, and figured I could get it paid off within a year. They basically kept $1100.00 interest during first 12 months ( said I had only paid $1100.00 towards principle )
