I just received a notice from a debt collector on a loan i took out almost a decade ago. While I thought it was consolidated under - -, and I had been making payments on it along with everything else. apparently I had not made payments on it since last - Yet. i did not receive any notices of payment, nor any notices that payments have not been received before now. I have stayed in this location for many years, moved once, then moved back and stayed here since 2013. It should have been incredibly simple to contact me, yet this debt collection notice is the first thing I have ever seen about it. It has likely harmed my credit and after all the work i have done paying down and consolidating my other loans, this happens. I am going to contact them tomorrow with many questions, but wanted to begin this process early in case of the likely event of further trouble. This seems illegal but i will do what I can to correct the issues.
