Vehicle lease Problems when you are unable to pay Massachusetts
Debt cleared then re-emerging after new sale was made. I leased a vehicle -/-/- which was totaled -/-/-. GAP coverage, insurance, and individual coverage from the branch of Toyota were all applied to my balance to cover for the vehicle and the vehicle itself was auctioned off. I had received a letter notifying me that I had around 20 days to pay off a large sum of money ( approximately - $ ). I could not pay this amount so it was put into collections. -/-/-, I returned to the same Toyota dealer who originally leased me the vehicle to clear up any debt I may owe and possibly consider another vehicle, as I needed one to commute to work. After over an hour with the finance manager, and him making several calls to Toyota financial and Toyota Motor Credit Corp, we came to a resolution. The finance manager assured me I did not owe any sum of money to Toyota Motor Credit Corp, as did the individuals from TMCC we were speaking with about my account. I was entirely prepared to make a cash payment settlement at this time, but was assured I was clear of debt. After this
% on time payments for each month. However, I received a letter in the mail today dated - -, - stating it was a claim for collection from Toyota Motor Credit Corp in the amount of $7400.00. I feel that there has been a violation of the Consumer Protection Act in that I was taken advantage of, and even misled about information regarding any debts, in order to make me purchase another vehicle. This deception caused me to purchase a vehicle unaffordable to me in the event I owed such debts. Purchasing a more affordable vehicle and resolving the debt would have been my course of action had I not been deceived. However, instead I have been almost tricked into purchasing another vehicle and lied to about the true details of any debts owed.
