Non-federal student loan Dealing with my lender or servicer Trouble with how payments are handled Georgia
In - of -, I received information from lending agency, - ( - - - ), stating they were taking over my current student loan with lender " - - ''. The loan with " - - '' had been established -/-/- for school expenses while attending the University - - - -, in - - California. - sent monthly statements showing the original loan amount and a payment due of " - '' until -/-/-, when I began to get statements showing an amount due of " - ''. Shortly after that I received a letter from them saying the status of my account had changed but it offered no reason or explanation for the change. When I contacted them to inquire about the issue and to point out that I was still in school on a deferred payment loan, they said they were the new servicer and knew nothing about those details and were only
met with ambiguity and the run-around. - then began to press me for personal information they should have had already and threaten to impact my credit if I did n't agree to their terms. I did not. They sounded more and more like a predatory lender with each conversation. I suggested we continue talks when they could provide to me reasons for the change in terms and no notification. I did n't receive any more phone calls from them and only one more statement which showed a monthly statement balance owed of $400.00. I also discovered around - they had made good on the promise to impact my credit score. I am still waiting for an answer to my request. I completed my course requirements in - -, and -/-/-, I received a letter from NES ( National Enterprise Systems ), a collection agency representing - - -, asking for $4000.00 on an original loan amount of $3500.00 over 10 years, at 6.667 % variable. I will send them a letter of dispute for the reasons listed above once completed with my request for assistance here. Who are all these people who are calling and asking me for money and personal and contact information they should already have? I have abided by the rules and guidelines set down in my original contract with " - - '', and if that loan was purchased by another entity, should n't the same terms apply with the new servicer in the spirit of fair lending? Paying back my obligation has never been the issue, but by the terms originally agreed upon. I did business with - - because it was what I could afford, then and now. By -/-/- I hope to have a new job and begin my student loan repayment. That was the agreement when I signed on, and in all fairness and good business practices, it should still be the state of the situation. Please tell me what I can do to protect myself.
