Vehicle loan Shopping for a loan or lease North Carolina

On - -, - I cosigned on a auto loan ( - - - ) for my mom on a vehicle from - - - of -, NC. Upon purchasing the vehicle we notice some work needed to be done to the vehicle. We returned the vehicle to the dealership on - -, - and they gave us a rental. On - -, -, we had to return the rental to - and pick up our vehicle from dealership. On - -, -, a finance manager contacted up and said that the deal was not funded and we needed to return the vehicle back to the dealer in the next 5days On - -, - I returned the vehicle back to the dealer but they did take the key to the vehicle. I tried contacting the finance company ( American Credit Acceptance ) to notify them that the vehicle was back at the dealer but the number listed on my contract agreements was saying the number was disconnected. I received a letter from American Credit Acceptance around the first week of - stating my reasons for denial. I tcontacted American Credit Acceptance using the number listed on my letter. I spoke with a Finance Manager who told me that they funded the loan but they were not notified that the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. She said they tried contacting the dealer but could n't get an answer or a call back about the vehicle. She told me to get a police report stating that I returned the vehicle on - -, - to the dealer. I went to the Sheriff Dept. but I was told I did n't need a police report for that issue. The sheriff told me to just document my dates and keep up with them. I reviewed my credit, and that vehicle loan is on my credit with late payments and I did n't even keep the vehicle two weeks.
