Credit card Taking/threatening an illegal action Threatened to sue on too old debt Louisiana
A representative from the - - - called me and claimed to be representing a bank - Providian Bank - to collect a debt that they said I still owed. They threatened me with a lien and to ruin my credit by having it cutoff. This debt was discharged in my bankruptcy in - of 1992. I have been careful to keep all my accounts paid and in good standing since then. I do not owe this debt but - scared me so that I agreed to pay. I have since learned that it is illegal to go after a debt that has been discharged. I stopped the payment from my credit card but - continues to try to call me to collect. This debt must have been purchased from the bank because - had my complete list of prior addresses, social security number, and present list of credit card accounts and numbers. This company is engaging in illegal business practices.
