Other (phone, health club, etc.) False statements or representation Attempted to collect wrong amount North Carolina
I had water service in - VA back in 2011. In - 2011 when I paid my bill I enclosed a note requesting service be discontinued on - -, 2011 because I was moving out of state. I left Virginia early on - -. I had a forwarding order in with the post office and never heard anything else from the water company. I recently discovered that I have - collection accounts for that water service, both with different amounts. I disputed with the credit bureaus and requested proof from the collection agency, stating that since I only had service at - location, I was concerned about having - different collections. The collection agency sent paperwork which appears to show that - collection account is for water service and - collection account for collection fees. However, I noticed that water service was continued for almost 2 months after the date I had requested for disconnection. Furthermore, the last payment I made, placed into a water company drop box, was never credited. My deposit was also never credited. I was also never sent a final bill, so I was unable to dispute the charges for after I requested disconnection. Taking into account the deposit that was never credited and the the payment never credited, if the charges after I requested disconnect were removed, I believe the water company would actually owe me a refund. I absolutely feel the account for collection charges is wrong because if I am owed money, then how can I be charged collection fees? I do not believe the account for the balance is accurate, again because of unauthorized continuation of service and failure to credit payments and a deposit.
