I was sent 0 % promotional balance transfer checks for my Citi credit card. The letter attached with the checks said in large letters at the top 0 % Promotional APR on Balance Transfers until -/-/2016. After that, your standard variable rate applies, currently 11.99 % APR. The standard balance transfer fee is $5.00 or 3 % of the amount of each transaction whichever is greater. '' However, apparently the balance transfer fee that applied to the checks needed to use the 0 % offer is 4 % of the amount of each transaction. This is extremely misleading advertising, I decided to use - of the checks to consolidate balances on other cards assuming a 3 % fee, however I was actually charged 4 %. I transferred $10000.00 using these checks, so I ended up spending $100.00 more than I expected based on the rate listed on the letter accompanying the checks.
