I 'm currently upside down by -- and unable to refinance and as of -/-/- my mortgage payment will increase from - to -. Due to interest rate increase. I applied for a home modification or rate modification with my mortgage bank and they denied me. They stated that I should be able to make the new monthly payments based upon income and that they could not adjust my mortgage balance so that I could refinance. How can someone that 's living paycheck to paycheck take a major mortgage increase like that with no assistance options. I was told by chase to sale the home or give it back. I have never been late with my payments. I 'm just a single man struggling to keep a roof over me and my - parent head. It 's sad that they want to throw us out into the street. Unfortunately I 'm in a area that has not recovered form the -/-/- housing boom. I 'm still under water with no hope in sight due to the decline of the area. We the tax payers bail the BIG banks out all the time and it 's sad that they ca n't show a little compassion for the tax payers in their time of need.
